Alleppey lying along the coast of Kerala , is one amongst the important tourist destinations in the state. Alleppey is also famous for its historic Aranmula Snake Boat Race which is an annual event. However, the most fascinating thing about Alleppey which is yet to be mentioned is the houseboats in Alleppey.
Kettuvalloms or houseboats are country boats that were used in the early days for the transport of goods from the isolated interior villages to the towns. Kettuvallom or houseboat is a fabulous way to explore the fascinating beauty of backwaters. A glide in a kettuvallom through the backwaters of Alleppey is sure to rob your heart.
A houseboat is about 67 feet in length and has a width of around 13 feet in the middle. The houseboats have fully furnished single and double rooms with sundeck, private balcony with comfortable chairs, kitchen and toilet with bath tub. These houseboats can be rented for overnight stay or if pocket allows it can be extended to a month’s stay.
HOUSEBOAT BASICS:
• Check in time : 12 Noon, and check out: 9 A M
• All houseboats are accompanied by a chef, driver & cabin assistant.
• Stay starts with lunch and ends with breakfast.
• Facilities include AC,TV with cable connection & DVD
• Houseboats are stationed from 6 PM(Evening) till 8 A M (Morning) when they are parked in the middle of the lake Vembanad.
• The rates for the boat will vary from Rs 7500/- to Rs 18500/- ( ie $ 170/- to $ 425/-) based on the No. of bed rooms .
HOUSEBOAT ITINERARY:
Guests can check in at 1200 hrs, and will be welcomed with a soft drink , and start cruise after a short briefing introduction and selection of menu for lunch. At 1400 hrs houseboats will stop for lunch, with lavish menu of traditional Kerala cuisine (karimeen, prawns, crab etc). 1500hrs it will continue its cruise covering beautiful rivers and canals with palm trees and small houses near to it, village’s paddy fields,etc. 1830 hrs the houseboats will be stationed (till next day morning 8.00) near the land because, you can also get a chance to go out and walk along the riverside or villages and come back. Evening enjoy your dinner and leave all world behind you and have a good sleep in your floating paradise. 0630 hrs Bed tea or coffee will be provided, enjoy the sunrise and breath polusion free air. Breakfast at 0800 hrs which include bread, butter, jam together with iddaly , dosa, sambar etc. 0930 hrs is the time to check out and end of services in houseboat and leave houseboats with an ever lasting beautiful memory.

Rail - Alleppey Railway Station connected by rail with Cochin & Trivandrum.
