Every individual with the will improve their health if they follow these five guidelines: Proper nutrition, stay optimistic, get a good night sleep, work out, and always work towards your goals. Follow these and you will become more productive, healthier, and just flat out more happy.

First off, eliminate dread and fear and find peace. There are health professionals that suggest not listening to or watching the news. Reading the morning paper starts your day off on a negative path. The news brings tragedy after tragedy, tearing you down.

Focus on things of optimism and gratitude. Thinking of things you can be thankful for is a great exercise every morning. Be thankful for your family, your life, for the ability to think and hear and see. The things that we take for granted every day. It doesn't matter what you fill the blanks in with. The important part is to develop a thankful heart.

The 2nd guideline is to eat right. Eat more whole foods, less processed foods, and overcome your addictions to fast foods. That is difficult to hear and perhaps even harder to follow, but it is simply so critical to your overall health.

Aside from eating correctly you need to be careful not to overeat. Overeating causes us to age faster, increases wrinkles, and greatly increases the likelihood of developing many diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes. If you need to, decrease the amount of food you consume.

Simultaneously increase the percentage of whole foods in your diet. Whole foods improve your health and improve your immune system. Eat 7-12 servings of fruits and vegetables each day and cut back on the amount of sugar and salt in your diet. You will notice a spike in your energy level and your overall health.

Thirdly, get plenty of sleep. If you is not going to function to it's full potential. It will even slow down your metabolism and make it harder for you to lose weight. Also, lots of hormones are secreted in high levels during sleep which allows your body to repair its self/ For example, if you are an athlete or a body builder, depriving yourself of sleep will increase your chances failure or injury.

Fourthly, exercise regularly. The average person should strive to exercise every day, raising their heart rate a little it and keeping it there for 20 minutes or so. If you cannot do it each day or every other day, at least do it every third day. Research have shown that after being sedentary for 72 hours the body's metabolism will start to decrease.

Lastly, develop a purpose in your life. Even those that have experienced horrendous illness have bounced back to survive for a long, long time because they found their reason to live. They have become extremely helpful individuals within their society and family and community spheres despite their illness.

These five guidelines are very basic and within the grasp of most people. Followed closely they can lead to a longer, healthier and a more rewarding life.
